They must know the rationale for their performance.  It is not sufficient to learn performance with the old-fashioned imitation model of the teacher's antetype, this cannot be an exclusive tool since it dramatically lacks the poetical precision asked for by Adorno's and Benjamin's micrologic. Without such alternatives to intuitive imitation, performance risks being disconnected from the audience.

His father welcomes him with open arms and trains him in the white man's ways. He is educated in the East and goes to West Point and becomes a cavalry officer and placed in command of a troop charged with protecting a wagon train. In Santa Fe, he is directed to prevent white outlaw bands from taking the land that belongs to the early settlers and must also fight off renegade Apaches.
A war is developing between the North and South, and he is concerned that it will destroy his father's families. A war is also brewing in the West, and he does not want to be fighting against his own people. He is deeply torn about where his loyalties lie.

About the Author
William Wayne Dicksion was born to the rural West. His ancestors were pioneers who were a part of the early migration into the American frontier. He grew up steeped in the lore of that great adventure. As a child, he loved sitting around the fire in the evenings, listening to the stories told by his parents and grandparents. Writing is his way of sharing the stories he heard and loved.

Puma Son of Mountain Lion

Puma,Son of Mountain Lion is a beautifully written story of the struggles that people endured settling in early America. Puma, as a young half Indian boy survives thru determination, experiences in the wilds and also from his father and mountain men,later as a young adult out of West Point. He becomes a compassionate leader while serving the Army. His men learn by him demonstrating better soldering thereby garnering explicit respect from his superiors and his men. The author thru Puma explores all the struggles, political, social, economics, human greed and weaknesses,and discrimnation. Questions of slavery, , morality of ownership, freedom , the individual rights,need of education, oppression are all explored. You the reader are challenged to know where you stand.

This is a second in a series of books and is easy light reading. I enjoyed the story. After reading the first book and this one, the story line becomes very predictable.

You're going to love it!!!!

Puma took right off from Sagebrush. Puma is a young half breed Indian while doing the test of manhood for his tribe and he is away his tribe is killed by the Apaches. His mother in her die-ing breath asks Puma to find his father and go live with him, which he does. The rest of the story is of Puma growing up under his father's supervision and becoming the man that both his mother and father are proud. There is a lot of situations that put him into danger, but he handles them like he has been trained to do. I had never read any of William Wayne Dicksion's books before Sagebrush, but immediately ordered Puma, and and now getting ready to start a new book by him "Danny". I like the way he writes and makes his stories flow. I would highly recommend both Sagebrush and Puma Son of Mountain Lion. Enjoy

Good Basic Text

This is a very good introductory petrology text which combines igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic petrology in one volume. With a publication date of 1996, it may be getting a little long in the tooth, however. For example, the book discusses the Wilson hot spot model without reference to mantle plumes. With the exception of some apparent confusion about the effect on seismic velocity of the asthenosphere, I found no significant errors nor editing problems. My only significant criticism is that all of the photographs are in black and white, and some are printed so darkly that details are hard to make out. One would think that, with a price approaching $100, the publisher would be able to include a bit of color in the appropriate places.

Note: This review is of the first edition; perhaps the problems with the figures have been addressed in the second edition.

I was a student of Brent Owens in the Geology Dept. at William and Mary. He is an absolute first rate teacher and this text reflects aptitude for teaching. The desciptions are precise, the reading easy, and the subject material is up-to-date. I liked the text enough to keep it and not re-sell it to an incoming student.

This book was great for the petrology class I took last semester. I recommend at least a little background in Mineralogy in order to get the as much as you can out of the terminology. I took Mins the semester before so this book was no trouble at all. The CD has some really neat pictures on it as well.

Contains excellent color photographs of common and not so common skin conditions encountered in primary care. An essential reference for the emergency department and the office.
